1.How do I find books from the Library?
Once you have identified the required books from the OPAC, write down the call number to locate the item on the shelf. If you need help finding an item, please take the help of the library staff member.
 
2.What does "OPAC" mean?
OPAC is a library acronym for "Online Public Access Catalog." When library staff uses the term, it means the Libraries' Catalog. Use the OPAC (Link) to locate the types of items that are physically available in the library.
 
3. Where do I check out books?
Books may be checked out from the circulation section. Once you have located the books from the shelf, kindly make use of the self-check-in and self-check-out kiosk using the library smart card. Please take the help of the library staff members to help you with the check-in and check-out kiosk.
 
4. Can I re-issue books?
Books can be re-issued to the borrower for another period provided those books have not been requisitioned/reserved by any other member. However, re-issuing will be done only after the book/s has been first returned and return entry made in the system.
 
5. Can I check out reference books?
Not all books can be checked out, for example, reference works listed as “REF” do not circulate and must be used in the library's reading room only.
 
6. What are the types of reading items available in the reference section?
Most print periodicals are located on the corner (left side) of the library building. Reference books are not allowed to check-out from the library. Reference work housed periodicals- items which are published on a regular basis, such as print journals, print magazines, print newsletters, and print newspapers. "Serial" is another term sometimes used.
 
7.How are books arranged on the shelves? 
The Central Library, like most academic libraries, arranges books on the shelves according to the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC). Materials are shelved subject-wise using the DDC class number. A system that is based on the division of all knowledge into 10 groups, with each group assigned 100 numbers.

8. How to obtain the library smart card?
To obtain a Library smart card:
  1. PG Students/Research Scholars: Please submit the online form (Link)
  2. For Teaching/Non-Teaching Staff: Go to the student corner section and download the hardcopy membership form (Link). Kindly submit the filled-in form to the library for ID card processing.
 
9. What if I lost my library smart card?
Fill in the duplicate form-download form from the student corner section (Link) and a duplicate smart card will be issued upon payment of a fine of Rs.100/-(Rupees one hundred) only through University challan.
 
10.For how long may I check out a book?

11. Are there fines on overdue books?
Books returned after the due date will be fined Re.1/- per book for each day of delay. The return of textbook issued for overnight use will be fined Re.1/- per book for each hour of delay. Further, the Librarian shall have the power to refuse the issue of books to a frequent defaulter.
 
12.Where do I pay the overdue fines?
Visit the library and contact the library circulation staff to clear the late fine charges.
 
13.How to obtain my library clearance certificate?
 
  • For students/teaching and non-teaching, a clearance certificate shall be issued by the circulation staff only when a member clears all the pending dues and returns his/her borrowed library books/card.
  • For PhD research scholars, a clearance certificate shall be issued by the circulation staff only when a member clears all the pending dues and returns his/her borrowed library books/card. Additionally, he/she will also have to submit the soft copy PhD thesis for upload into the National repository -Shodhganga
 
14.How to find E-Resources? 
Locating e-resources (eJournals/eBooks/Bibliographic databases, etc) involves two steps: 
  1. Browse through the library e-resources portal (Link) and select the required resources/databases. (This type of access is available using the University’s network only).
  2. Use the remote access (Link) to get off-campus access to e-resources using a single sign-on facility. For remote access account creation, kindly refer to the remote access portal (Link)
 
15. How to locate the Master’s dissertation and previous year’s question paper?
Masters dissertation and previous year’s question paper are currently not available in the central library. Kindly consult your respective departments regarding the availability of these resources.
 
16. How to locate Nagaland University Ph.D. Thesis?
Locate Nagaland University Ph.D. thesis from these two platforms:
  1. Browse from the Nagaland University Repository (Link)
  2. The Shodhganga @INFLIBNET (Link) Centre provides a platform for research students to deposit their Ph.D. theses and make it available to the entire scholarly community in open access.
17. How to conduct “Plagiarism” checks for Ph.D. manuscript?
Submit your Ph.D. manuscript to DrillBit software for similarity check through your Ph.D. supervisors. Kindly refer to the plagiarism webpage (Link) for further information.
