Services-Lumami Library

  • Circulation Service: A Circulation desk is located at the main entrance of the library to direct the library visitors towards the circulation section whereby the function of lending library materials is carried out using the self-check-in and self-check-out kiosk. Library Circulation also includes renewing the borrowed items, check for damaged books at the time of return, receive payment of fines and other related services. 
  • Access to E-Resources: The Central Library is a member of the E-Shodhsindhu Consortium & the DELCON DBT-Electronic Library Consortium through which thousands of e-books, e-journals, e-conference proceedings, etc., are being made available to its users for access via Campus Area Network and Remote access. The Library also subscribes to various e-resources to supplement the requirements of its user’s information need (Click here).
  • Remote Access to E-Resources: The Off-Campus access service is provided to the faculty members and students to seamlessly access the scholarly e-resources from outside the University campus. Username and password have been provided to all the faculty members to access library e-resources 24x7 through identity providers. For further info (Click here)
  • Reference Service: The Library is equipped with a separate reference section which houses variety of collections such as the Ready reference service; General Encyclopaedia, Subject-specific Encyclopaedia, Dictionaries, Handbooks, etc. In addition to electronic databases available for the use of patrons, the Library also provide access to print journals (Click here for the list of subscribed print journals). A dedicated reference staff is available to assist users in locating information for queries received in person.
  • Computers Labs & Wi-Fi Facility: The Central Library, Lumami provides multiple computer terminals with high-speed internet access to its users. The Library is also equipped with Wi-Fi network for its library users. 
  • Open Access Directory: The Library also promote open access to e-resources by launching the Open Access Directory which includesOpen Access E-Books; Open Access E-Journals; Institutional Repositories; Electronic Thesis & Dissertation. These Open Access Resources are research and reference materials which are made available by the site owners/publishers/aggregators, etc., to the general readers, to use freely for teaching-learning, and research purposes with proper acknowledgements. 
  • User Education: Central Library being the service provider, arranges the user orientation/education programme for the fresh Students and Faculty of Nagaland University every year at the beginning of new semester. In this orientation programme, Central Library educates its users about the system and services of the library. The library also prepares video tutorials from time to time on different topic related to Library services/users’ research / academic work. These videos are uploaded to the official YouTube channel (Click here) of Nagaland University.
  • Plagiarism Service: For fair conduct of research and prevention of academic misconduct, the Library offer plagiarism detection services to its users by registering each faculty member into DrillBit and iThenticate Anti-plagiarism software. These are software that searches the Web for duplicate textual content. 
  • Reprography Service: Central Library provides a photocopying facility within the Library which is located in between the main stack area and circulation section. A user can get the photocopy of desired documents on  payment basis at a fixed rate.
  • E-Thesis in IR/NDL/Shodhganga: Nagaland University is a contributing member of Shodhganga (Click here), the national portal for Electronic Thesis and Dissertations. The library also uploads all of its Ph.D. thesis into the National Digital Library (NDL) (Click here). The library maintains an Institutional Repository (IR) (accessible within University LAN only) using DSpace software (Click here) which hosts the various research documents of the University.
  • Special collection: In addition to the subject-specific collection and reference collection. The Library also offer special collection such as the Braille collection; PhD Thesis; North-East Collection and few collections from other specialised fields such as Medicine and Sport, etc. 
  • Reading Room – The reading facility is located in three locations. Individual reading carrels are placed in the stack section; Group reading and Individual carrels in the Circulation section; and reading facility in the reference section. These reading facilities are spacious, reader-friendly and adequately furnished. 
  • Digitization Service: A digital scanning section was set up to convert the hard copies dissertation and thesis into electronic copies. The section is located next to the reprography section and its main goal is to enhance access and improve the preservation of library materials for posterity.
  • OPAC – The Central Library provides an interface of an information retrieval system that assist information searchers to access printed resources that are available in the library for access. The OPAC(accessible within University LAN only) (Click here) is placed at several access points for ease of access. The Library OPAC is based on the Local Area Network which means that users can search for books using the Central Library OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) within the campus network.
  • NU_IRINS: It is a web-based Research Information Management (RIM) service developed by the Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Centre in collaboration with the Central University of Punjab. A project approved by MHRD/Ministry of Education to create instance for Centrally Funded Academic Institutions. The IRINS is available as free software-as-service (SaaS) to Nagaland University.   • Ask a Librarian: The Central Library provide users with virtual reference services via a webform (Click here). This webform is placed on the library’s official website to save time and resources by answering queries related to the library system and services.
  • Grammarly software: To promote academic writing, the library subscribed to ‘Grammarly,’ software to spell check for grammar and punctuation. It detects clunky sentences, paragraphs and passages, thereby, rendering effective writing style to its users. It also offer a plagiarism check tool to detect the similar sources in the writings.
  • Bibliographic Compilation: The central library, lumami, also provides a bibliographic compilation of research sources (listed from reputed databases like WoS, Scopus, etc.) so that researchers can allocate and identify the relevance of this bibliographic list with their work. The library makes this service available to PhD research scholars on a request basis.
