E-Journal Access Portal

The Central Library supports the University in its mission and objectives and aims to serve the academic community in the best possible way. The Library stocks printed books, journals, magazines, newspapers and provides access to electronic journals and databases. It is even equipped with special collection such as Ph.D. Thesis, Braille, North-East Section, Medical and Sports collection, etc., to meet the information needs of its users. The Library building at Lumami covers a floor area of 1662 Square meters. It is spacious, reader-friendly and adequately furnished. The Library also advanced its web activity with the subscription of high impact e-journals, e-books, etc., and, via the E-ShodhSindhu Consortium & the DELCON DBT-Electronic Library Consortium through which thousands of e-resources are available for access. Access to the E-resources is made available through both the Campus Area Network and via the Remote access facility. The Library is fully automated using Koha ILS. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has been successfully integrated with Koha software to enhance security and library efficiency. Inventory control, automated check-in/check-out using the kiosk, anti-theft detection system at the entry, exit, stock reporting, access control etc. is fully automated. The Central Library also promotes open access to e-resources. Our success lies in its use by the academic community of Nagaland University. We are regularly conducting orientation programme and make efforts in generating tutorials to equip our users with the proficiency to use our resources and the web. The Library also aims to meet the information needs of its users at the right time by facilitating the use of Library OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). For additional safety, the Library is monitored through CCTV cameras installed at strategic locations.

  • Circulation Service: A Circulation desk is located at the main entrance of the library to direct the library visitors towards the circulation section whereby the function of lending library materials is carried out using the self-check-in and self-check-out kiosk. Library Circulation also includes renewing the borrowed items, check for damaged books at the time of return, receive payment of fines and other related services.
  • Access to E-Resources: The Central Library is a member of the E-Shodhsindhu Consortium & the DELCON DBT-Electronic Library Consortium through which thousands of e-books, e-journals, e-conference proceedings, etc., are being made available to its users for access via Campus Area Network and Remote access. The Library also subscribes to various e-resources to supplement the requirements of its user’s information need
  • Remote Access to E-Resources: The Off-Campus access service is provided to the faculty members and students to seamlessly access the scholarly e-resources from outside the University campus.   • Reference Service: The Library is equipped with a separate reference section which houses variety of collections such as the Ready reference service; General Encyclopaedia, Subject-specific Encyclopaedia, Dictionaries, Handbooks, etc. In addition to electronic databases available for the use of patrons, the Library also provide access to print journals. A dedicated reference staff is available to assist users in locating information for queries received in person.
  • Computers Labs & Wi-Fi Facility: The Central Library, Lumami provides multiple computer terminals with high-speed internet access to its users. The Library is also equipped with Wi-Fi network for its library users.
  • Open Access Directory: The Library also promote open access to e-resources by launching the Open Access Directory. These Open Access Resources are research and reference materials which are made available by the site owners/publishers/aggregators, etc., to the general readers to use freely for teaching-learning, and research purposes with proper acknowledgements
  • User Education: Central Library being the service provider, arranges the user orientation/education programme for the fresh Students and Faculty of Nagaland University every year at the beginning of new semester. In this orientation programme, Central Library educates its users about the system and services of the library. The library also prepares video tutorials from time to time on different topic related to Library services/users’ research / academic work. These videos are uploaded to the official YouTube channel of Nagaland University.
  • Plagiarism Service: For fair conduct of research and prevention of academic misconduct, the Library offer plagiarism detection services to its users by registering each faculty member into DrillBit and Anti-plagiarism software. These are software that searches the Web for duplicate textual content.
  • Reprography Service: Central Library provides a photocopying facility within the Library which is located in between the main stack area and circulation section. A user can get the photocopy of desired documents on payment basis at a fixed rate.
  • E-Thesis in IR/NDL/Shodhganga: Nagaland University is a contributing member of Shodhganga, the national portal for Electronic Thesis and Dissertations. The library maintains an Institutional Repository (IR) (accessible within University LAN only) using DSpace software which hosts the various research documents of the University.
  • Special collection: In addition to the subject-specific collection and reference collection. The Library also offer special collection such as the Braille collection; PhD Thesis; North-East Collection and few collections from other specialised fields such as Medicine and Sport, etc.
  • Reading Room: The reading facility is located in three locations. Individual reading carrels are placed in the stack section; Group reading and Individual carrels in the Circulation section; and reading facility in the reference section. These reading facilities are spacious, reader-friendly and adequately furnished.
  • Digitization Service: A digital scanning section was set up to convert the hard copies dissertation and thesis into electronic copies. The section is located next to the reprography section and its main goal is to enhance access and improve the preservation of library materials for posterity.
  • OPAC: The Central Library provides an interface of an information retrieval system that assist information searchers to access printed resources that are available in the library for access. The OPAC(accessible within University LAN only) is placed at several access points for ease of access. The Library OPAC is based on the Local Area Network which means that users can search for books using the Central Library OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) within the campus network.
  • NU_IRINS: It is a web-based Research Information Management (RIM) service developed by the Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Centre in collaboration with the Central University of Punjab. A project approved by MHRD/Ministry of Education to create instance for Centrally Funded Academic Institutions. The IRINS is available as free software-as-service (SaaS) to Nagaland University. Users can find out the scholarly communication activities and scholarly network of faculty and departments within Nagaland University
  • Ask a Librarian: The Central Library provide users with virtual reference services via a webform.This webform is placed on the library's official website to save time and resources by answering queries related to the library system and services.
  • Bibliographic Compilation: The central library, lumami, also provides a bibliographic compilation of research sources (listed from reputed databases like WoS, Scopus, etc.) so that researchers can allocate and identify the relevance of this bibliographic list with their work. The library makes this service available to PhD research scholars on a request basis.
1. Eligibility for Library Membership.
The following shall be eligible to become members of the library.
1.1 Teachers, Students, Officers and other employees of the university.
1.2 Any other person whose name is recommended by the Head of a Department and approved by the Administrative Officer.
2. Procedure for Enrolment.
2.1 All Categories of members shall fill in the prescribed membership form available at Central Library and make necessary deposit, if any, to become members of the library. Members will be given Library Smart Card for borrowing/transaction of books.
3. Conditions of Loan.
3.1 Post Graduate students shall be entitled to borrow 4 (four) books for a period of 15 (fifteen) days, thereafter the books have to be returned to the library.
3.2 Books can be issued only through the smart card and have to be returned within the due date.
3.3 Books shall not be issued through another person’s smart card. The library smart card is non-transferable.

4. Fines for Late Return.
4.1 Books returned after the due date will be fined Re.1/- per book for each day of delay. The return of textbook issued for overnight use will be fined Re.1/- per book for each hour of delay. Further the Librarian shall have the power to refuse the issue of books to a frequent defaulter.
5. Loss of Book/s or Smart Card/s.
5.1 Loss of Smart Card should be reported immediately in writing to the Librarian. A duplicate Smart Card will be issued upon payment of a fine of Rs.110/-(Rupees one hundred and ten) only through SBI Collect portal of the University.
5.2 In case of loss of book/s, the same is to be replaced by a copy of the said book/s by procurement or replacement cost paid (Three times the cost of the book).
6. Responsibility of Borrower.
6.1 A borrower shall take utmost care of Smart Card/Books and for the return of the same to the library without damage.
7. Re-issue of Book/s.
7.1 Books can be re-issued to the borrower for another period provided those books have not been requisitioned/reserved by any other member. However, re-issuing will be done only after the book/s has been first returned and return entry made in the card.
8. Reservation/Holding of Book/s.
8.1 The Library provides the facility of reservation of books issued by another member of the library. Users have to issue the reserved books within the holding period. On expiry of the holding period the reserved books will be made available for issue to other members.

9. Reference Section.
9.1 Journals (inclusive of popular periodicals) newspapers and those documents which are marked Ref are not meant for issue, but for consultation in the library.
10. Damage of book/s.
10.1 If any member of the library is found guilty of mutilating or defacing a book, writing in the margin or on the print or destroying or damaging library property, such members shall be required to replace such books or properties damaged.
10.2 If such books belong to a set or series and the volume cannot be obtained singly, the member shall be asked to replace the entire set of series.
10.3 Such member/s may also be fined for the offence/s and debarred from further use of the library.
11. Issue of Clearance Certificate.
11.1 Clearance Certificate shall be issued only when a member returns his/her Library Card.
12. With-Holding of results.
12.1 The graduating students are required to produce a clearance certificate from the Librarian in the absence of which the results of their University Examinations are liable to be with-held.
13. Stock Verification.
13.1 All materials (documents) on loan irrespective of the normal due date shall be returned within a fortnight in the event of an annual stock verification.
14. Special Power.
14.1 The Librarian shall have the power to refuse the issue of a book, or to recall any book/s from a borrower if it is considered necessary in the interest of the institution
